Introduction to DK, Drift King

My name throughout this semester will be DKNK, it stands for Drift King in reference to Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift and the NK is my initials. I am a senior in the MIS program at Oklahoma University, and will graduate in Spring 2021 after a hard fought journey of five years in college. I am super excited to graduate in order to pursue my hobbies more freely. My Favorite hobbies are cars, computers, and video games.

I have a huge passion for cars and car cultures from around the world. My favorite car scenes are lowriders, bagged or hydraulics, and Japans' car scene. Japans' car scene is probably the most unique car scene in the world, the love to light up their cars with LEDs along with crazy paint and other various mods. I also have taken up a love for classic cars, my favorite design area is the late fifties and sixties. My first car purchase out of college will hopefully be a sixty two or sixty three Lincoln Continental. As of currently I have a lowered Silverado that rides on DUB rims, and a Ducati Café Racer.

Computers have always been synonymous with video games, I currently have about an eight year old desktop that I use for gaming. It runs an impressive three screens, and puts down impressive figures in resource hogging games/programs for being so old. I also am in the process of building a new computer that is fully water cooled, that has an Intel i9 and SLI linked dual Nvidia 2080ti.

I took up video games when I was very little, while today I have a steam account that has a massive library of games. The first game system I owned was the original Xbox by Microsoft. I have always had a preference for Xbox over PlayStation or Nintendo, although these days I obviously prefer playing on computer rather than consoles. This is one of my favorite ways to spend my time, I like to do completionist runs on games I play in order to get more out of them. The biggest achievement run I have done is Halo MCC that had seven hundred achievements and took four hundred hours to complete over more than a year.

  1. Hello DKNK!

I have never really known much about cars, but video games I'm decently familiar with. I wouldn't really consider myself a gaming person because I play a pretty limited range of games, playing a lot of open-world, resource-collecting games, such as Minecraft and Stardew Valley. In fact, I currently have 230 hours in Stardew Valley, which is definitely a bit excessive but entertains me nonetheless. I have always been interested in the process of building one's own PC, because you can build it to your specific needs depending on what games you play most, whether you constantly play FPS games or RPG games.

While I am not super familiar with the Halo franchise, my dad was a hardcore COD player when I was a kid. I often slept in the living room so I became pretty familiar with the beautiful, if that's how you want to see it, sounds of COD.

I'm glad you are finally nearing the end of your undergrad career after working so hard! I also hope you can continue to enjoy all your interests without the stress of worrying about assignments.

  2. Hey DKNK,
First off I really like that nickname and I am a big fan of the Fast & Furious series. Fast & Furious Tokyo drift may actually be my favorite movie in the series. That's is really cool that you are into cars and I think a Lincoln Continental is a good choice, really clean car for sure. I am also a fan of video games I play on all systems, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. I can definitely agree that PC is the way to go when it comes to customizing your experience. You definitely get a good experience in return for the amount of money it costs to play on PC. Halo was actually the first fps I had ever gotten, really fun game! Look forward to seeing your stories.

  3. Hi DKNK! I also really like video games, although I'm not a completionist. I just kinda play for fun, but there are a few that I have 100% because I loved them so much! I've never actually played XBox (most of my friends do though), I grew up with PlayStation and Nintendo, so all of my best moments come from their originals. I don't know much about Halo, but 400 hours for an achievement is impressive! I hope you have a great semester!

  4. Hi DKNK! Thanks for your comment on my blog! So, I don't know much about cars, but it sounds like a really cool hobby to have! I can't tell you how many times I wish I knew something about cars when I break down somewhere. I thought it was cool too how you said you liked Disney too in your comment on my blog. Cars is a really good series done by Pixar. They have really done a lot with it. Also, a lot of my friends play video games, unfortunately my hand eye coordination is not that good and I have never been as good as I wish I was! But, I have always enjoyed watching my friends have a good time playing them. Anyways, hope you have a good semester!

  5. Hi DKNK,
I don't know much about cars, but I love video games. We could never afford them growing up, and I live too far out in the country for anything that requires an online connection, but I've always had an interest in them. Right after the Xbox one was released, my parents got me an Xbox 360 and the Batman video game Arkham Asylum. When I have time I plan to replay it again, and maybe I'll try for a completionist run as well.
May the randomizer allow our paths to cross again,
    -A.

  6. Hey DKNK,

I cant totally relate to the 8 year old PC for gaming as I was in the same boat. I got a PC my freshman year of high school and only just upgraded it as a senior in college! I'm not as familiar with cars and all I know is I drive a 2009 Honda CR-V. Best of luck this semester and I hope to see your blogs in the future!

  7. Hello DKNK! I apologize because I addressed you as Nicholas on your story post. DKNK is very cool. I think it is very impressive that your 8 year old desktop is still running very well! I am not a very big car person, but my brother definitely is. He has basically rebuilt his dodge truck and added all kinds of stuff to it like a lift kit and something to make it really loud (you can tell this is out of my expertise). I can't wait to read some of your work this semester!

  8. Hey DKNK!

I also love cars! I think classic cars and some of the cars that are coming out nowadays are so cool!! My dad and uncle are really good at working on cars and modifying them with accessories, but I am not the best at working on them unfortunately! My roommate is also majoring in MIS, and I think that's awesome. I am not one to work on computers, but I have respect for the people that do. My roommate recently built his computer and it's water cooled! Nice to meet you!

  9. Hi DKNK! That's so cool that you're into cars and video games! I'm not very familiar with cars myself, but that's awesome that you like classic cars! I grew up playing video games with my brother, and my boyfriend is pretty into video games, so I know a little more about that hobby (although I'm certainly no expert!). We played on old gaming systems when I was a kid, like a SEGA Genesis and an original Xbox as well--there's nothing like old video games, although the new stuff is pretty cool!

  10. Hey DKNK, I think it is really cool you chose an alias for yourself! I always wanted a nickname for myself when I was little, but my name Savannah doesn't have a lot of different ways you can change it around. So I would change my name every day at school, and the teachers had to put my "new name" on name tags every day because I wouldn't respond unless called by my daily name. I have been playing video games since forever too, but never anything cool. Growing up we had a lot of Nintendo DS, Wii and playstation games but that's about it!

  11. Hey DKNK,
Congrats on graduating this semester! I also love to play video games. I have a PS4 and a PC but I haven't touch my PS4 in awhile. Although I'm not a completionist, I still try my best to get the most achievements as I can. It bothers me that I don't get 100% on a game but I'm too lazy to actually complete it. Completing 700 achievements in Halo is amazing! Congrats! My cousin and I used to play Halo when we were little so I have a personal connection to that game. i wish they have it for PlayStation though but oh well. Hope you have a good rest of the semester!

  12. I am so grateful for the storytelling energy that video games bring to this class, DK! There's the sense of adventures happening in all the action of video games, plus with video you get that whole sense of how images are a big part of how we tell stories now, which is why I like doing web-based stories where images (and music and video too) can all become part of the story in a way that is so different from a traditional printed paper written with MSWord. And I remember when Halo first came around: talk about a game that has had an enduring appeal! Maybe you will tell some Halo-inspired stories for this class! I don't know if you've seen Aaron's Portfolio, but he's doing some stories inspired by Cyberpunk 2077... The Myths of V. I bet there are all kinds of ways you could use Halo to inspire some storytelling blog posts too! Then you could have 700 achievements, plus a story blog post. Or two. Or three! :-)

  13. Hey DKNK,
Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift is an incredible movie. That whole franchise is one of my favorite to watch. The storyline is rich and the character development is just so great. Most of the time at least. I love that the movie plays a role in your nickname. I've always had an appreciation for cars, but I never really had the opportunity to learn about them and appreciate them first-hand. That 63 Lincoln does look incredible. Video games however I can definitely align with you on. The Halo franchise is easily one of my favorite universes to play in. The story is absolutely incredible, and the universe is so immersive it's amazing. I recently built a PC with my friend, and I'm transitioning from Xbox to PC games as well! Games just run so much better on PC. Hope your path to graduation continues to be smooth and enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of your stories, DKNK!

  14. Hello DKNK!

I feel the same way about computers and video games. I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember. I am afraid to look at just how much I've spent on the steam games in my library over the years.

That's awesome that you have all the achievements for Halo. I'm not too good at FPSs myself. I typically play more Nintendo over PlayStation and Xbox but hey, to each his own, right?

  15. Hi DKNK!

As an Asian and a fan of Tokyo Drift, this definitely caught my attention in the best way possible. Though I am not into cars that much personally, a lot of my friends are and I enjoy working on cars with them even though my knowledge on it is rather scarce. I am a huge fan of video games as well though I play on my PlayStation 4 rather than a computer. I have been meaning to make the switch over to PC soon as I have been able to game better on mouse & keyboard rather than a controller. If you have any suggestion or tips on building my own computer, I'd love to chat about it! Good luck on the rest of the semester!

  16. Hello DKNK!
Just from the first sentence I thought, "oh yea this guy games," as DKNK totally sounds like a gamertag. Now I have Tokyo Drift by Teriyaki boyz stuck in my head, thanks, lol. I used to game a lot when I was younger, just Xbox, but a lot of Skyrim, Assassins Creed, Halo, and COD. Those were the days. Anyways, if you're a fan of computer games I have a feeling you'll get a chuckle out of my storybook intro.
First fellow motorcyclist in this class! Virtual high-five! Ducati cafe racer? Sick! You'll have to post a pic! I took a buddie's Aprilia 1100 for a spin once and hit triple digits in nothing flat... that was enough for me. Just this past summer I got rid of my pristine '02 honda shadow w/cobra slashdowns. Sad day... looking to upgrade to a HD. Take care!

  17. Hi DKNK,
I love how you chose an acronym as your name for the semester and how it pertains to Fast & Furious. I love the fast & furious series. Also, congratulations on graduation this semester! I also am graduating in Spring 2021. You said you prefer playing on the computer now, Do you have a favorite game you like to play?

  18. Hey DKNK!

Wow what a great way to introduce yourself! Also because it's a great movie and I love the you used that as your name for this class! I find it really cool that you're so passionate about cars and you can definitely tell you know what you're talking about when it comes to them. I myself am not a big car person (but I do know how to drive a stick shift!!) and I'm not really a computer or gamer mostly because I'm pretty bad at it. I had to do a project over twitch once, and for how much you love computers and gaming I think you'd love it (disregard if you already use it, haha) that's really my only insight to the gaming world.

  19. Hi DKNK!
It is so cool that you are super passionate about cars! I have also wanted a baby blue FJ40 Land Cruiser, luckily I got the closest thing and now drive a 2007 FJ Cruiser which I am obsessed with. I don't know much about computers or video games, but it is really cool that you have something that you are so passionate about that you could possibly somehow incorporate into your career! My sister actually works for the company that creates the video game trailers for games like Halo and Call of Duty! I wish you luck post graduation!
