Week 9 Story: Yokels & Tar-Babies

Bart Simpson was skateboarding around Springfield looking for fantastic pranks to pull. He spied Nelson Terrorizing Milhouse on the school yard. Nelson asked Milhouse, "Do you believe you should were a mask to protect others?" Milhouse scared to guess which answer Nelson wanted to hear said, "Uh... Uh... No definitely not, you can do what ever you want!" Nelson punches Milhouse in the stomach and said, "That's for not following CDC guidelines. Ha Ha." Bart rushes up to Milhouse to comfort him and helps him recover his glasses. Milhouse thanks him and ask what Bart plans to do the rest of the day. Bart says, "Today is the day I pull off the greatest prank, but I just don't know who would be stupid enough to fall for it." After brainstorming for a while Milhouse shouted out, "I know, lets prank Cletus! He is the stupidest person in town." In agreement on the victim, Bart clued in Milhouse on the prank.

Bart went to the local tar fields to gather tar, while Milhouse went to get some old worn clothes from the local Goodwill. Meeting back on the road to Cletus' house, the boys assembled a Tar-Baby complete with clothes and good posture. They set the look-alike person up against a tree and took shelter behind a nearby bush. Cletus eventually came strolling by quickly noticing the shady character. He called out, "Boy ill tell you what. You better get of my here property right now." The figure didn't budge. Cletus drunkenly stumbling towards him said, "Now I done asked you to leave, now I'm going to sock you right in the mouth." Cletus took a swing but completely missed striking the tree. He cried out, "Damn I done broke my hand. Now ill never able to drive stick shift in the General Lee." He threw another punch and became stuck. "Aw now you gonna get it", he said. Kicking the figure his leg became stuck and he said "Alright, now hold still while I headbutt you!" Headbutting the figure his head became stuck as well. Bart and Milhouse emerged from the bushes dyeing of laughter.

--Author's Note--

This story is based on The Wonderful Tar-Baby Story. In this piece Brer Fox fools Brer Rabbit into becoming stuck in a Tar-Baby. Brer Rabbit takes it upon himself to teach the Tar-Baby a lesson after it ignores his polite greeting by striking it with his hand, foot, and head. Brer Fox does this in an attempt to capture Brer Rabbit so that he can eat him. No this story obviously takes place in The Simpsons. The retold story follows roughly the same plot outline with Cletus becoming stuck in the Tar-Baby, but for the reason of a prank rather than for cannibalism.

  1. What an interesting story!
I see that you didn't change too much besides the characters from the Brer Rabbit story. However, I think it's awesome that even small changes like this can make for a completely new and original story. I never would have guessed that this was based on an African trickster story unless I had just come from reading The Wonder Tar-Baby. Instead, I felt like I was reading the script for a new Simpsons episode, directed by you.
